When the intensity is adjusted properly, the muscles near the applicator can be seen to twitch in response to the fields.Non-Visible EffectsNon-visible effects are related to the action of the magnetic force on tissues and organs. The mechanism of this action is unclear, in spite of years of effort. The results are not questioned, however, as a preponderance of studies show that patients experience relief from a wide variety of conditions, as measured by Outcome Assessment.Diagnostic ScanningSome practitioners have found that they can use the device at low intensity to "scan" the patient to detect areas of sensitivity, and then devise a treatment plan for the affected areas.Treatment MethodsThe client is easily introduced to the device by gently tapping the leg to demonstrate the sensation produced by the machine. After the coil is positioned and the machine energized, intensity can be increased until the action of the device can be felt. The practitioner can then inform the patient that the intensity will be increased, and ask the patient to indicate when it is on the verge of being uncomfortable. Then, reduce the intensity to assure patient comfort. Normal courses of treatment with the PMT-100 range of one to ten sessions of about fifteen minutes each.Dosage LimitsThere are no established limits to the duration of a single treatment. A rule of thumb is to limit the initial dosage to three, three-minute exposures per extremity, and three, three-three minute exposures for the trunk. This gives the provider an opportunity to observe how well the patient tolerates and responds to treatment. Careful documentation of client subjective pain pre- and post treatment, as well as pre- and post treatment range of motion is very useful in tailoring a treatment regimen.Contraindications:Although the pulsed electromagnetic fields produced by the PMT-100 are stronger than most other units on the market, its magnitude is less powerful than standard Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Nevertheless, precautionary contraindications include:- Do not use the PMT-100 device on patients who have implanted lead devices (cardiac pacemakers, cortex stimulators for Parkinson's disease, etc.). It is possible, but not likely, that the magnetic waves could induce currents into the device leads, possibly leading to malfunction. - Do not use the PMT-100 device on patients who are pregnant.
